EP Review: thrown – extended pain (Arising Empire)
Emerging out of Sweden’s arctic winters and bitter summers, the Stockholm-based hardcore four-piece hardcore thrown will release their debut EP, extended pain on March 25th, 2022 via Arising Empire.
A sharp and pointed jab to the temple, extended pain is one hell of an apt title as it leaves you aching and sore all over long after it has dished out its damage. A stompy blast of aggression that makes you gurn with the exertion needed.
From the moment grayout builds towards an eruption of circle-pit mayhem, you know you’re in for a painful but satisfying time. Then along comes fast forward to make things even more chaotically furious and new low goes hell for leather with a nasty slab of heavy as balls noise.
There’s no let-up as thrown combine the classic ‘in-your-face’ attitude of hardcore with modern song-writing and structures. It’s as much a hardcore album as it is a metal album and that makes each track all the more bone-crunching.
By time dwell and parasite have come along, the aching satisfaction has sunk in deeply and a long dip in a warm bath is needed.
A scorching debut.
