EP Review: The X – The World Is Burning, Let’s Dance (Self Released)

Luxembourgish electro-punk duo The X will release their brand-new EP, ‘The World Is Burning, Let’s Dance’, on April 22nd, 2024.

If this is the soundtrack to the end of the world, we’re all going to have a blast, courtesy of The X.

It’s all looking and sounding a bit ‘cyberpunk’, but with the added bonus of undeniable catchiness. Something that is front and centre with the electro-heavy intro of WTF! A track with some bite, as the vibe is moody and the lyrics are sharp. It’s the starting pistol, but for all its enjoyability, it does feel like the EP really gets going with 404.

Mainly because this where things start to really ramp up and we get some big danceable beats. The X want the club to be well and truly rocking and it’s hard to deny them when they’ve got enjoyable efforts like this in their arsenal. The chorus is a particular high point, and once again, the lyrics have a real edge to them.

Freak is next and the electro-beats are front and centre here. The duo also change up the vocals for some freshness to their sound. Again, there’s no denying the catchiness of this track, but it’s fair to say that this might be the EPs anthem.

The final two tracks don’t mess with the formula, but they also show more of The X’s creativity. First, with the wackiest sounding track of all, Okok! Then with their energetic ode to the end of the world, The World Is Burning (Let’s Dance). Neither hit quite like what came before, but that doesn’t mean fun isn’t going to be had regardless.
