EP Review: The Throwaway Scene – On Death & Dying (Self Released)
Sheffield emo rockers The Throwaway Scene will release their much-anticipated debut EP, ‘On Death & Dying’ on January 26th, 2024. Although this is the band’s debut release, they have already achieved so much. With appearances in 2023 at Burn It Down and Thrown Fest, as well as shows with Static Dress, Lonely The Brave and Love Is Noise.
If their accomplishments in 2023 are an indicator of what the future holds for this band, then On Death & Dying is the starting pistol for 2024. A five-track EP of excitable emo rock with a modern post-hardcore twist. Kicking off with the anthemic energy of Fake Death. A great showcase of what this band can do, especially when it comes to changing up preconceived formulas.
Though, it’s fair to say that The Throwaway Scene also know exactly what to take from the ‘emo’ scene and how deliver it in a memorable way. Who Else Is in the Room, Bury Me, and Sometimes (I’m Drowning In My Sleep) keeping things very hot and interesting.
Each track is anthem in its own way, and everyone will find something they can enjoy. Be it the vibrancy of the vocals, the textured instrumentation, or the clear high level of heart and soul that The Throwaway Scene have given here.
The race is only getting started, but The Throwaway Scene are miles ahead already, and with Rumour, they get another boost. This EP closer is so melodramatic, it could be a parody, but it’s not. It’s The Throwaway Scene and it’s really lovely.
Watch this band closely as 2024 goes on. There are big things coming in their future.
