EP Review: The Reflecting Skin – The Reflecting Skin (Self Released)
The Reflecting Skin is a Leed-based noise rock/doomy hardcore band that features members from the likes of Cattle, The Shakamoto Investigation and Belk. Their debut self-titled EP was self-released on the 1st April 2022.
Grim. That’s just one of the many words that will come to mind as The Reflecting Skin introduce us to the mind-numbing and ear-splitting wall of noise that comes from Ceramic Rash. Uncomfortable, chaotic, slow-moving, and grubby, yet somewhat compelling. At this stage, it is impossible to understand what this band is.
Limb Off will go some way in answering that question though as the band get into a rhythm that is made up of hardcore-inebriety and a rocking commotion. The fuzz and feedback on the guitars dominate but the shouted vocals cut through the fog intensely.
Pandemonium really is unleashed with IMA-IW-BF though as The Reflecting Skin deliver a filth-covered doom-infused hardcore blast of horror. Followed by 32 seconds of ‘what the fuck’ that comes with Split Wires. Before Nocturnal Cough takes us on a 6+ minute dirty drop into methodical doom depths. Doom in The Reflecting Skin’s unique style.
This debut is downright dangerous sounding and that alone makes it’s a very exciting listen. It’s not going to be to everyone’s taste but it’s well worth experiencing such eclectic imagination at least once.
