EP Review: The Reflecting Skin – II (Self Released)

Leeds, UK-based noise rock band The Reflecting Skin are back with their new EP, II. Out on April 21st, 2023. This follows on from 2022’s debut self-titled EP.

More abrasive noise from The Reflecting Skin is always welcome and there’s no denying that II is as impactful as their impressive debut. Featuring three tracks of nasty, feedback-laden, and fuzzy horror, it’s a short slice of wincing intensity from a band that continues to impress.

Leaning towards more horror-laden noise rock, especially when you take into account the vocals, Irreversible Damage hits hard as the opener. The frantic energy of The Reflecting Skin on par with the grumbling and rumbling fuzz that makes it so uncouth sounding. Whereas Loose Hiss is just out and out nastiness, and Grimace is one hell of an apt title. Although if you have an ear for this sort of thing, you might be smiling instead.
