EP Review: The Divided Line – Paramnesia (Self Released)
On February 23rd 2018, Toronto based alternative hard rock/metal band ‘The Divided Line’ will release their new EP, Paramnesia.
Paramnesia – a distortion of memory in which fact and fantasy are confused.
Inspired by the likes of metal’s alternative scene, bands such as Tool. The Divided Line combine elements of prog with melodic groove & huge hooks. There is a certain radio friendliness to the tunes, easy to enjoy but still mentally challenging in regards to riffs & melodies.
Breathe brings sensual sounding prog alongside some chillingly good vocals to get the EP started off well. It’s followed by the heavier groove of Dimensional before Phylliidae really delivers a twisty & hook-heavy track.
The first half of Paramnesia is such a satisfying listen. Fans of melodic prog metal will fall in love with The Divided Line instantly. Thankfully any worries that they may have peaked too early are dashed with the sorrowful & moving, Déjà.
My Confession proves that The Divided Line know how to work melody, metal and prog to create imaginative, exciting but very listenable stuff. An excellently & lovingly crafted EP closes out with the unconventional song structure of Sync-Wave, the highlight of the record. Haunting effects alongside some gloriously head-banging metal riffs, a fantastic finish.
