EP Review: The 69 Eyes – Drive (Atomic Fire Records)
Goth ‘n’ roll pioneers The 69 Eyes have been haunting stages all over the world for 33 years and seem to be a truly immortal part of the dark rock/metal scene. Widely known as the Helsinki Vampires, the quintet has established a worldwide following. Now it’s time for them to take the listeners on a dark road trip with this new EP ‘Drive’ featuring 3 brand new tracks from 2022 and one live banger.

Don’t think for one second that The 69 Eyes are slowing down after such an iconic amount of time in the music business. In fact, they seem to be changing gears and putting their foot down. Such is the animated feel of this EP and in particular, the opening title track. The energised riffs mixed with The 69 Eyes’ goth ‘n’ roll style makes for an infectious listen.
Call Me Snake keeps the catchy anthems coming as The 69 Eyes mix in some of their dark and sleazy side to great results. The riffs are nice and chunky, the vocals are at their sinister best and the chorus is going to slay live.
Finally (unless you get the CD version), it’s the rousing California that keeps the body moving in perfect synchronisation with The 69 Eyes. Although, if you do pick the physical version you’ll be treated to a massive sounding live rendition of The 69 Eyes’ Two Horns Up.
