EP Review: Squidge – Tough Luck (Self Released)

Squidge, self-described as “big sad loud dumb punks from Bristol”, will release their brand-new EP, Tough Luck’ on April 26th, 2024.

Life is limbo. Sometimes you can’t do the things you want, you may experience imposter syndrome, the closest people around you might drift away, or you might never get the chance to tell someone how you really feel about them. All in all, I guess that’s just Tough Luck.

Call it what you want; emo rock, pop punk, pop rock, sad songs for sad people, something we can all agree on is that the music of Squidge is mightily infectious and mightily lovable. Their ability to deliver body-moving instrumentals and big vocal lines means everyone will find themselves feeling touched by this EP.

Especially when it opens with such a singalong as Sad Sack, has a grunge infusion that makes Truck so memorable, comes with lovely liveliness and mournful melody on Falling Through the Ceiling, and has such deep emotion as the kind found on Scumbag. Massive credit to Squidge for showcasing such depth and relatability in just four tracks.

It’s a brilliant release, and upon hearing it, all you’ll want to do is hear even more from them.
