EP Review: Splintered Throne – Live at Billy Blues (Self Released)
The traditional heavy metal band Splintered Throne is excited to announce the release of their new live EP entitled “Live at Billy Blues”. Available worldwide March 23rd. It is the band’s first live album and features 7 songs from their previous 3 releases.
The performance was recorded in front of an enthusiastic crowd on September 21, 2018 at Billy Blues Bar & Grill in Vancouver WA.
We always say the most important aspect of a live album is for the production to make us feel like we’re there. Like we’re part of the crowd cheering along to the band, something this 7-track album manages to do nicely.
Splintered Throne’s heavy metal style is perfectly matched for a live recording. Squealing riffs, hyper soloing and old-school NWOBM vocals as the punchy opener, The Octagon comes out swinging. Whereas BPM is super-catchy and in the live setting conjures up images of a dancefloor of grooving bodies.
Chatter from the band is kept to a minimum as Nature’s Design, Something Fierce and Temptress are fired off in quick succession. Each one bringing their own exciting taste to the heavy metal palette.
A great accompaniment to Splintered Throne’s body of work to date comes to its conclusion with the more melodic Seasons. A sweet tune that injects some pace around about the halfway mark for a frantic finish of hefty guitar shredding and soloing.
