EP Review: Sour Times – Awaken The Voiceless (Self Released)
American extreme metal outfit Sour Times are back with their highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s The 11th Hour. Their new EP, Awaken the Voiceless, will be available on all major platforms on Friday the 13th of October 2023.
Are you feeling like you need something to kick your ass? Like you need something that is unapologetically heavy, groovy, and mean sounding? Something that also has a fair amount of catchiness to it, provides anthemic choruses, but still has weight?
Good news! Sour Times are back with an EP that delivers on all of those desires and then some.
From the surprisingly accessible heavy groove monster that is People Over Profit. To the straight-forward aggression of 40ft Noise. The dramatic melodic touches and crunching rhythms of the title track. To the intense and ‘in your face’ No Victors that could easily be the anthem of the EP. Or the manic Sickness that finds Sour Times at their most egregiously extreme. Every track slams, but also shows there is so much more to this band then just heaviness.
Banging stuff.
