EP Review: Sinnery – Below The Summit (Exitus Stratagem Records)

Israeli thrashers Sinnery will release their brand-new EP ‘Below the Summit’, on September 29th, 2023 via Exitus Stratagem Records.

Sinnery know how to go hard and deliver a crashing and banging level of thrash noise, with this EP serving as mighty example of that. Five tracks of dazzling speed, frenetic riffs, and pounding drums, all while the vocals roar and shout with pointed aggression. If you’re not head banging like crazy to the opening track Somber, there might be something wrong with you.

A more intricate and progressive effort, all while being delightfully thrash-heavy again, An Ode (Knife of Erato) is another rager. Before a 22-second trippy recording advertising Sinnery themselves (We Just Want You To) leads to the most straight-forward thrashing and bucking track of all, Share This. A track that doesn’t pass the 2 and a half-minute mark, so you know it’s going to be very hyper.

Which it is, but so is everything on this EP, including the meaty and manic finale of Serene. Here, Sinnery get even more ‘snarly’ but offer up a modernised chorus that is surprisingly catchy and intriguingly epic.

A very strong EP that will please both the old and new schools of thrash metal.
