EP Review: Sentient Horror – The Crypts Below (Testimony Records/Redefining Darkness Records)
The Crypts Below is the new EP from extreme metal, Sentient Horror. Four (plus a cover) tracks of malice, putridity and tenacity. The EP will be released March 30th 2018 via Testimony Records (Europe/World) & Redefining Darkness Records (North America).
The swirling fury of Enter Crypts Below serves as a hell of an introduction to Sentient Horror’s new EP. A blast to the mind, body & soul . The death metal band grab the listener by the ankle and drag them down into the darkness.
A strong start isn’t lost as Bled Dry By the Night and Hatchet Crimes prove that Sentient Horror understand that their fury needs some level of control. It’s untamed & wild but is all too aware of its actions at the same time. A beast that has made the decision to go feral.
The final original track from the extreme metalists shows this wildness off perfectly. Hell Marked is a raging & bloodying track filled with screeching guitars, crushing drum hits & roaring vocals.
The short EP closes out with a cover of Edge of Sanity’s Darkday, a moody, slightly melodic & punchy effort that lives up to the originals power. All while still holding up Sentient Horror’s end of the bargain.
