EP Review: Semprus – A Fractured Reality (Self Released)
Attacking the senses from Guildford, Surry, UK tech-death metal band, Semprus, will set loose their brutal new EP, A Fractured Reality, on September 29th, 2023.
Going hard from the start, Semprus are thirsty for blood and sounding almost animal-like with the opening track, Insanity. Showcasing a smart level of technicality, alongside brutalising speed and heaviness. The breakdown in the latter half is utter carnage. Yet, there’s a groove to it too, and that really comes through with the chorus.
Hatred is a very dark offering, filled with violent and aggressive vibes, Semprus really hit devastating levels of heaviness here. Helped by the absolute guttural roars of Bound in Fear’s Ben Mason on guest vocals. Then there is the stomping drum beats and frenzied technical guitars of the meaty Genetic Misery, another absolute beast. Before Cursed finds Semprus’ appetite for slaughter heightened and the result is another bloodbath of crashing and chaotic noise.
Finally, this monstrosity of tech-death wraps up with Identity Crisis. Where a melodic introduction cleverly transitions into something much blacker, bolstered by power and speed, and sounding as epic as it does furious. It’s a very big finish.
Five really beastly offerings that are as interesting as they are vicious.
