EP Review: Scale of Attrition – Broken Bonds (Drowning Sea God Records)
From the grimy depths of London’s music underground, a new melodic death metal force emerges. On November 8th, 2024, the five-piece that is Scale of Attrition let loose two EP-length tracks of exceptional ferocity and grace through boutique label Drowning Sea God Records.
Featuring members of Meridian Sun and Decades in the Shadows, Scale of Attrition might be a new band but it’s one with a ton of experience. Which is why it’s no real surprise that this EP goes hard as Scale of Attrition aim to leave an impression.
It’s going to be a deep one thanks to the heavy and groovy death focus that the EP has. Think mean sounding music with an underlying thrashy intensity, but also music that you can move too as well. Not just a head banger, but a body shaker. Where the infectious nature of it is impossible to ignore.
That’s not hyperbole either. Scale of Attrition have an ear for catchy heaviness and deliver it with mighty aplomb on a pair of tracks that have plenty of force about them. Of the two, it might be Panacea that edges it personally, thanks to its kickass riffing and big sounding chorus, but that’s not to underplay the appealing ferocity that the title track has too. They’re both absolute bangers and leave you hungry for so much more.
Impression well and truly left.
