EP Review: Reaping Flesh – Abyss of Existence (Redefining Darkness Records)
Italian savages, Reaping Flesh, formed in 2022 in Milan, Italy, with a mission to play no frills, straight forward death metal, the way they believed it should be. Their debut EP, ‘Abyss of Existence’, will be released on June 16th, 2023 via Redefining Darkness Records on CD & cassette formats.
Sometimes it can feel a bit lazy to describe a death metal release as ‘no nonsense’ but sometimes that is exactly what is coming through the speakers. Case in point, Reaping Flesh and their debut EP, Abyss of Existence. A six-track slab of ruthless old-school death metal that makes no pretences about what it is. There’s no changing the world of metal with this kind of music, it’s just a throwback to when death metal was king.
Yet, none of that is meant as an insult. Reaping Flesh are doing what they want to do and appealing to the mass of people who live and die for this guttural sound. No f**king around here, it’s going to make you head-bang until your neck aches and a gurn is permanently locked on your face.
It’s quality death metal, as Reaping Flesh believe it should be.
