EP Review: Plaiins – Puppet (Self Released)

Founded in 2021, Plaiins is an in-your-face rock band that pull influences from punk, alternative rock, indie and metal that have quickly grown to prominence on the underground circuit with their infectious hooks, hard hitting lyrics and huge sound. Now, the multi-national trio will release their second EP, Puppet, on July 6th, 2023.

It’s a brash and bright start with YFABM as Plaiins arrive with a ton of punk energy and intensity. This is a straight-forward short slice of chaotic fun to set the bar at a high place. It’s a fun start, a word that Plaiins build upon with the foot-tapping alternative groove of Wooha! (speak easyyy). Before the halfway point of the EP comes with the anthemic POLIDICKS. An example of Plaiins speaking their mind about the state of politics, something everyone can relate to, regardless of location or standing.

The most notable thing about the first half, aside from the overall catchiness of Plaiins sound, is the variety on show. This band aren’t going to be pigeon-holed no matter how much we try.

No further proof needed than the animated melody of the title track, a strong showcase of Plaiins passion. Before the longest, darkest, and most energised track of all arrives in the form of Chelsea Smile. Here, Plaiins showcase some of their post-punk influences, while still making sure it is another undeniable memorable listen.

Do you believe aliens exist? Sure, that’s not too strange. How about aliens living amongst us and controlling the planet? Well, Plaiins have a weird conspiracy theory anthem for you with Nothing’s Gonna End Us till The Aliens Do It. Good thing it’s so catchy, it might make forget the end of the world is nigh.
