EP Review: Our Souls – I Won’t Tell You The Same Lie (Big Egg Records)
I Won’t Tell You the Same Lie is the brand-new EP from Leicester-based melodic/gruff punks Our Souls, due to be released on October 6th, 2023, on Big Egg Records.
A vigorous blast of skate-punk and rock is the name of the game as Our Souls get their new EP started in style with Cuckoo Clock. Fun and hooky as hell, but with just enough bite to really get you moving.
As good of a start as that is, it’s Ekman’s 7th that really electrifies the senses, Our Souls showcasing a stronger combination of melody and punk rock, while also having emphatic vocals. This is one that gets well and truly stuck in the head.
Although that could also be said about the melodic fieriness of Janey, or the raucous punk hit that is 12312342. Our Souls are making every second count, and while the overall EP might be short, it is blast from beginning to end.
Which just so happens to be another punchy and powerful hit in the form of Something Fierce. Melodically more elaborate, and with some of the strongest vocals of the entire EP. It’s a smile-inducing finale, if by some chance the rest of EP hasn’t already slapped a big one your face. Which is highly unlikely.
