EP Review: Oceans – Far From Composure (Self Released)
On March 13th 2018 UK Alternative/Hard Rock/Post-Hardcore band Oceans will release their new EP Far from Composure.
The band commented: “March 13th sets a huge milestone in Oceans career as we drop our EP ‘Far from Composure’! We cannot wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been working so hard towards.”
Beginning things in a more melodic way, the progressive-tinged sound that Oceans throw out takes a minute to take in. It’s not initially that thrilling but as Ctrl goes on, it picks up in tempo & ends up dropping a wicked chorus.
Clever song arrangements see Skin, Surrender & Running Away bring thought-provoking post-hardcore to the forefront. Trying to get a handle on what Oceans have going on is truly hard work and this is an EP that needs multiple listens. Provided you can get past the hit and miss vocals. At times they’re just off, sounding as though they’re being sung through a blocked-up nose. It can be a bit off-putting.
Thankfully the quality melodies & hooks hold things together nicely. The instrumental oddity that is Adapt is absolutely brilliant, Dopamine’s flashes of intense guitar medley will get the foot tapping while Out of this World’s brings it all together to end the EP on a hard rock & unconventional high.
