EP Review: Necronomicon Ex Mortis – You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over (Self Released)

Death metal with a blood-soaked shred twist, Chicago based Necronomicon Ex Mortis will release their next batch of high-octane, heavy horrors with forthcoming EP, ‘You and Your Friends Are Dead: Game Over’. Out on June 29th, 2024.

Their third EP in just over a year, Necronomicon Ex Mortis are on a bit of a tear since forming and spilling plenty of blood along the way. Combining a love for the riff with garish death metal and horror films, their vitriolic ways are only matched by their desire to have some gory fun.

Five violent head bangers are on offer here, and the slaying begins in fierce fashion as My Bloody Valentine aims to rip the still beating heart from your chest. The guitars are swung around with the force of pickaxe to the face, but be under no false illusions, this is still a death metal track and with that comes some serious heaviness.

Heaviness that is even more savage on the following Leprechaun, with Necronomicon Ex Mortis proving to be hungrier for guts than gold. Followed by sounds liable to drive you insane with In the Mouth of Madness. Even Lovecraft himself couldn’t have conjured up this level of horribleness. Before we get even more intense riffing, drumming, and scowling with The Dead Zone. Unlike the power poor Johnny Smith has and doesn’t want, Necronomicon Ex Mortis proudly wield theirs like a weapon.

Finally, let the slashing commence, it’s Jason Lives, and like the infamous villain of the Friday the 13th series, Necronomicon Ex Mortis are unforgiving in their quest to leave a trail of bodies in their heavy metal wake.
