EP Review: Nachtmuse – Darker Skies (Self Released)

Nachtmuse, the solo project from Geoff Hodsman, is preparing to unveil a new powerful symphonic offering. The forthcoming EP, Darker Skies, is due out April 7th, 2023.

Five tracks long but feeling so much bigger, mainly because of the symphonic grandiosity on show. Nachtmuse’s new EP is a charming showcase of power and poise. Featuring a solid amount of heaviness blended with symphonic opulence. The Warning is the opening track and has a robust riff and drum combo but really comes to life once the vocals arrive, eventually hitting its high in the chorus.

The Ashen changes the tone with a much heavier and aggressive stance, where guttural vocals feature, but is transformative too, as symphonic melodies and powerful vocals take over. Followed then by The Sublime, an apt title, as it sees Nachtmuse get a bit more experimental but delivering an epic soundscape. Before The Sunken thrills with its blend of thick metal groove and power-driven symphonic highs.

All so very impressive.

The cherry on top being an extravagant cover of All About Eve’s Candy Tree. A very cool sounding version that caps off an enjoyable symphonic metal EP.
