EP Review: Must Kill – Cause and Effect (Self Released)
Formed in late 2018 Must Kill are a four-piece metal band from the UK, heavily influenced by old school thrash and death metal. After spending the last 3 years playing tons of show and writing new material, the band will release their new EP ‘Cause and Effect’ on June 23rd, 2023.
It’s a thrashy start to the EP which can mean only one thing. Limber up those neck muscles, it’s time for a good old-fashioned head-banging session. Yet, My Scourge Sentence is way more than just a throwback thrash number. Must Kill have talent and they use that to twist the formula and give it a modern spin. It makes for a much more exciting listen as you can never quite predict where it’s going to go next. Although, it and everything that follows, does guarantee a heavy head-banging good time.
There’s some exciting groove up next with the pairing of Bete Noire and No More. Both tracks have some killer riffing and big hooks, plenty of dirty speed that finds Must Kill going hell for leather, and anthemic vocals that you just want to shout along to. Before the title track’s chunky death-infused sound meets the animated intensity that Must Kill have kept consistent throughout this EP. It’s a kick-ass closer and a satisfying wrap up of a very strong EP.
