EP Review: MuddiBrooke – Lunacy (Self Released)

Alt rock trio MuddiBrooke will release their eagerly awaited debut EP ‘Lunacy’, on the 22nd of October 2021. Muddibrooke bring hope, coming from the stories in the songs. By looking at the human condition, from an emotional perspective this gives us permission to move on; to move forward and hopefully never look back.

Says Brooke (vocals/guitar):

We love to be able to play together, bringing our songs to life and hearing them as we first imagined, it’s always the best feeling for us. You can plan beforehand but songs truly take another shape when you plug in together and hear them, they’re supposed to be loud and that’s what we’re here to do.

I wish that I could see the future so I know when you get mad.

It’s this melodrama that introduces Devil but the more impactful vocals of Brooke make it a much more defiant listen. Telling a story about a failing and bitter relationship, the earnest insistence in her voice is very impactful. All backed up by soft and rhythmic instrumentation which kicks up a gear when it comes to the chorus. A hell of an opening track and one many may be able to relate too.

A smile inducing, fun and catchy ode to partying and one-night stands is Liverpool Guy before Straight Jacket delivers a short and punky tale of feeling trapped. Powerful and memorable stuff.

Though the emotional impact of Turn to Dust might make it the most impressive track on the EP. A track where you can feel the pain in the vocals and where the switch from mellow guitar strumming into heavier rock sounds, hits hard.

Though, if you want a track almost everyone in world can relate too, then listen to Fake It. Dealing with what will all have to do to get through some days. The chuggy guitars are stunning but the bloody chorus is where it’s at here.

What a freaking EP this. Watch out, MuddiBrooke are about to blow up in the alt-rock world.
