EP Review: Masakre – Morbid Extinction (Pulverised Records)

Indonesian Deathcrust upheavals Masakre unleash their latest bombardment ‘Morbid Extinction’. The new EP will be released on February 18th, 2022 via Pulverised Records. In addition, those who pick up the CD version will be treated to the band’s debut EP ‘Crawling To Perdition’ (2018) as bonus tracks.

Combining crust punk with death metal, Masakre’s new EP is a macerating listen. A whirlwind of ferocity where you are caught up in it, cut by sharp instrumentation and no matter how loud you scream, you can’t be heard over the noise.

Morbid Extinction is five tracks long and is dripping in intensity. A set of short tracks that see Masakre bring up bile, spray putrid death and revel in a miasma of filth. Of course, they’re far from just noise-mongers though and Merciless Death is a good example of the head-banging rhythmic qualities that exist on this EP.

That being said, you’ll remember this for how disorientating it is more than anything else.

Pick up the CD version? Get another five bangs for your buck. Their debut EP has been included and it’s quite interesting to hear how much they’ve developed over the few years between these releases. Oh, it’s definitely more of the same sickening brutality but the earlier release is a bit rawer, heavier on the guitar feedback and more guttural. It’s still quite appealing though, as extreme noise often is.
