EP Review: Make Way For Man – Rites (Self Released)
Rites is the new EP from Perth, Australia’s Make Way For Man. A 6 track collection of their experiences in the past few years, including singles ‘Ideations’ (featuring guest vocals from Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer) and MVP, as well as their Owl City cover ‘Fireflies’.
Guitarist Drew Shepherd says that the EP:
…explores the idea of not overcoming fear by succeeding always, but knowing there are bound to be ups and downs in life – and having to be ready to handle them the best way you personally know how to.
Rites will be released into the world on Friday September 18th 2020.
The sweet guitar medley that introduces Strangers doesn’t quite prepare the mind for the eruption of post-hardcore/metalcore that comes shortly afterwards. Make Way for Man throwing themselves about with complete abandon for an energetic and effectively concentrated experience.
Building on that powerful performance, MVP goes from a contained level of catchiness to a frothing metal beast in an impressive instant. A hell of an anthem and Ideations isn’t far off that too. The guest vocals of Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer adding some real guttural meat to the bones.
No guests needed for Victories and the title track to make impact though. The former, slightly mournful but mostly fiery and the latter, a burning hot and hyper offering that will drive the live crowds wild.
A strong EP ends with a cool cover of Owl Cities’ Fireflies. An upbeat and catchy effort from Make Way For Man that doesn’t stray too far from the original.
