EP Review: Lost to Light – Conceal (Self Released)
Derby, UK, metalcore group Lost to Light will release their debut EP, ‘Conceal’, on Friday August 2nd, 2024. Formed of members of such venerated underground acts as The Cartographer and Sworn Amongst, the release of the EP comes just ahead of the band’s performance on the New Blood stage of the year’s edition of the legendary Bloodstock Open Air.
Getting a spot on the New Blood stage is no easy feat, so it says a lot about Lost to Light that they earned theirs pre the release of their debut EP. Very impressive, indeed, but do you know what’s also impressive? The five explosive tracks that make up Conceal. If you’re going to Bloodstock you’re going to want to hear these beastly anthems in person.
Especially the likes of Redeemer and Narcissist, two thumping and chunky examples of Lost to Light’s exciting metalcore credentials. Given a much stronger flavour thanks to two guitarists and even more power thanks to two vocalists that work really well together. While every single track off this EP can be called a metalcore anthem, it’s these two that are just a little bit more infectious.
There’s plenty of merit to be found elsewhere though. Unrelenting is heavy, with some of the faster rhythms, but balanced by a melodic chorus that has the clean vocals soaring. Confess is a persuasive showcase of morose melody given life through the edge that Lost to Light have to their instruments. Finally, there’s Comatose, and Lost to Light adding a bit more drama and darkness to their sound, but ensuring heads will be banged regardless.
