EP Review: Lost Brethren – Dimensional Rift (Grindscene Records)
Lost Brethren are a sci-fi inspired technical death metal band from the UK who have released four studio albums to date. Having also toured the UK extensively and have shared the stage with such established acts as: Internal Bleeding, Extreme Noise Terror, Gutalax, Hecate Enthroned, Voices, Red Method, Bloodshot Dawn, The Infernal Sea, and Necronautical.
On March 3rd, 2023, they will release their brand-new EP ‘Dimensional Rift’ via Grindscene Records.
There are many things to take away from this new Lost Brethren release. One being the spectacular combination of sci-fi, technical mastery, and undiluted death metal intensity. Another being just how assured and measured the band are, all while sounding positively possessed. Then you have the stark reality that it’s an EP that leaves you begging for more. Always a welcome issue to have with a release. It’s so good, you want more.
Dimensional Rift is a triumph of a release and one that delivers on every element that Lost Brethren promise, and more. The talent in this band makes this style of tech-death sound fresh and filled with life. The blistering speed, brutish heaviness, brash belligerence, and sci-fi layering is the stuff metal dreams (or nightmares) are made of.
Four monuments to tech-death, four tomes of erratic and enigmatic music, Dimensional Rift is as brilliant as it gets. Lost Brethren have set the bar for this style of metal extremely high this year now.
