EP Review: liveconformdie – Vol. II: Music For Living Failures (Self Released)
liveconformdie (AKA Conform) are a five-piece band from Perth, Western Australia, who formed in late 2015. They bring a broad blend of genres to the table – drawing inspiration from the roots of modern metal and 90’s – 2000’s nü-metal.
Friday, August 5th marks the release of the ‘Vol. II: Music for Living Failures’, the eclectic quintet’s second EP which has been in the works since early 2020.
Eclectic or eccentric, both words work well to describe liveconformdie. Their brand of metal is going to send a person of a certain age on a nostalgia trip. Even if it’s put through a modern filter. Not to sure what you’re in for? The opening track ‘Fetish’ will go some way to explain how liveconformdie twist the nü-metal sound of yesteryear into their own thing.
It’s quite something. Which makes the short 38 seconds of vibrations that In the Dark gives off even more surprising.
The barely contained intensity spills over into something diabolical sounding with Help Yourself. The electronica giving this one a really dark and ominous vibe, before Terrorwave downright assaults the senses with its dance club fused with metal vibes. Baffled? You’re not alone.
Yet, there’s still so much more to come.
Trash Culture’s hip-hop and rap sound, Big Homie’s heavy intensity and stomping groove and Nü Life’s ferocious bite. The latter part of the EP continuing to show off just how eclectic and eccentric liveconformdie are.
There’s no denying that music like this will polarise, but it is also music that has huge crossover appeal. Not everyone if going to love it, but plenty will.
