EP Review: Krooked Tongue – No Vacancy Hotel (Self Released)
Bristol-based rock trio Krooked Tongue will release their debut EP ‘No Vacancy Hotel’ on February 11th, 2022.
2020 saw the cancellation of their second UK tour and the postponement of shows alongside the likes of Dinosaur Pile-Up and Turbowolf, as well as festival slots at Boardmasters and 2000 Trees. So, they’ve instead spent the last year honing in on a more refined studio sound with Josh Gallop of Phoxjaw at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, working to help replicate their formidable live act.
The product of their recording efforts comes in the form of this 4-track EP.
Not as much an EP as it is a 4-single compilation, No Vacancy Hotel features 4 rock bangers that can be enjoyed individually or as part of this release. Tracks that you wouldn’t be surprised to hear coming out of a radio such is the accessibility of each one.
Rock music with heart, soul, a touch of sexiness and plenty of groove. Vampyr is a class opener to showcase this memorable and catchy style. Before Freaky Love showcases something with some real danceable qualities to it. If the latter doesn’t get you up and moving, check your pulse.
Though the groovy thrum of Swarm is just as infectious. The methodical tempo hits a chorus that is such a singalong but a bout of wild instrumentation at the end is what really stands out. Another smart and interesting effort.
The title track is the closer and has Krooked Tongue ramp up their playful nature while systematically breaking down defences with sharp melody and harder groove punches.
A very cool release.
