EP Review: Kronowski – Do I Need a Reason (Self Released)

Kronowski is the metal/rock creation of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Adam Kronowski. Alongside lead guitarist Tommy Lenzi, the band released the new EP, ‘Do I Need a Reason’, on December 5th, 2024.

Adam Kronowski is one hell of a talented individual and this EP proves that point emphatically. Featuring five absolute bangers that draw from a wide range of metal sub-genres, ensuring there’s a little something for everyone here, especially those who like to head bang to creative heaviness.

Kicking off proceedings with the title track, Kronowski unleashes an immediate injection of heavy groove, before showcasing how developed the palette of this band is with a pop-infused and very anthemic chorus. The back and forth between these dramatically clean segments and the velocity of the metalcore infused aggressive bits is damn cool.

It’s an attention-grabbing start, and Kronowski builds on that with more dramatics, effects, and a certain amount of vigorous rockiness with The Weight. Before Tides offers up rampant guitar groove and dreamy melodies. This is the EPs best track, not just showing off fantastic vocals and solid riffs, but proving to be stupidly catchy too.

Happily the creativity of this record continues right up to the end, first with the massive and lovable ear-worm of a track that is Boring, a track that shows off some more progressive ideas as it goes on. Then, finally, with Shades of Grey, a highly melodic and heart-wrenching listen that is all about the vocals and the effectiveness of piano melody. How about the epicness of the ending though? It’s brilliant.

Which applies to the EP as a whole. Very unique, and so very creative, it’s five really varied listens that just about everybody can enjoy.
