EP Review: Incarceration – Empiricism (Dawnbreed Records)
Brazilian/German Death Metal quartet Incarceration will be releasing their much-anticipated new EP, “Empiricism” worldwide on April 16th, 2021 on vinyl, CD, and cassette.
With 21 minutes, the record presents four brand new tracks and officially introduces the two new guitarists Pedro Capaça (Violator) and Alex Obscured (Speedwhore, Obscured by Evil).
Raw, muddy and evil as anything, there is a real darkness to Empiricism with the dirty and thick rhythm. The distant vocals are akin to a demonic wind howling around a barren mountain top where the thumping of the drums indicate something worrying is approaching.
The opening track, Chthonic Pulse brings speed and force up until the last few minutes where the tempo drops into doom levels for a crushing and grandiose end. Psychic Totality then draws deeply from the well of OSDM for a frenzy of noise. Led by some outstanding riffs and chucking in a gargantuan guitar solo for extra oomph.
Still dripping in deep darkness, Beneath the Chains of Existence continues the trend of guttural fury with extremely listenable instrumentation. Before Chasms of Metaflesh wrap things up in, unsurprisingly, savage fashion. The weight of their metal blended with the rawness of this EP makes the brain ache.
