EP Review: Human After All – Don’t Worry, It Only Gets Worse (Self Released)

Released on August 25th 2017 independently, Don’t Worry, It Only Gets Worse is the new EP from Milwaukee based post-metal/metalcore band, Human After All.

The band had this to say:

“The music is all about personal responsibility and not letting your emotions get the best of you. Using how you feel to create an outlet that sparks you.”

An energetic start, Flip the Script is very ‘metalcore’ with blasting beats, a mix of guttural & clean singing & plenty of firey hooks. It’s a solid but unremarkable start, something that is happily rectified on Resolve. The aggression here has a point & it’s supported by some thrilling guitar hooks & bass chug that has a much fresher sound.

That freshness is present in We’ll Talk About it Later with more focus put on the clean vocals & complex guitar rhythms. Some unexpected melody adds layers to what has been an EP that shows a lot of promise within the post-metal sub-genre.

What can’t be faulted with this EP is the variety. Don’t Worry has verses made up of spoken word vocals before erupting in ferocious hardcore choruses. It Only Gets Worse has a more melodic approach with flashes of hooky hardcore.

The EP finishes up in style with the thrilling bounce of Pretending it Never Happened! Showing off complex rhythms & killer a drum beat. The hardcore vocals really shine here, the aggression is out of control & it’s easy to see this song going down an absolute treat in the live environment.
