EP Review: Hexis – XII (Crown & Throne Ltd/Moment of Collapse/Truthseeker Music/Division Records)
Out on September 29th 2017, XII is the new EP from black metal/hardcore outfit, Hexis. The EP will be available via Crown & Throne Ltd, Moment of Collapse, Truthseeker Music & Division Records.
Derelictus is just over a minute of utter carnage. Deep & booming heaviness that vibrates throughout your skull. It’s a hell of an introduction to the blackened meta hardcore l heavyweights.
It’s instantly followed by the just as intense Nefarius, a track that lowers the pace a little bit but still delivers a raging torrential flood of aggressive heavy metal. The delightfully evil vocals, the sublime nastiness of the drumming, the headache-inducing distortion in the guitars. This far too short EP is a listening experience like no other!
Every track flows into the other giving it a really complete feel & each track seems determined to outdo the other with pure shock and awe heaviness. Though saying that, it’s far more structured & clear then you might expect.
The hypnotic rhythmic quality of the increased high levels of bass ensures XII goes out on a serious high. The distortion ringing through your skull, the brutal drumming & blackened vocals creating a vortex of which there is no escape.
Give in.
