EP Review: Hex Wound – Averse to the Universe (Self Released)
Hex Wound are a black metal project from the United States, gearing up to release their first EP, Averse to the Universe on June 2nd, 2020.
Hex Wound was formed in late 2019, by founding members Cast (Vocals) and Bind (All Instruments). Their music blends black/death metal and is inspired by bands like Dark Funeral, The Legion, and Morbid Angel. The EP explores themes from the current age of derision: subversion of the politically correct, sacrifice without cost, and the clarity found in suffering.
Hysterical, reckless and so very heavy. Hex Wound emerge with an overwhelming bludgeoning of black metal noise. Attacking with their instruments as though they are weapons of mass destruction. Be the explosive riffs, the skull cracking percussion or the bursts of flesh melting vocals. Hex Wound wield their weapons with little care for who they leave laying.
Across 4 tracks, the ferociousness shown by this new band is attention grabbing and it’s simply a matter of holding on for dear life. Only slowing the tempo for an absolute beast of a track in Horror Form. The filth pouring forth from a guttural level of savagery.
A mean listen.
