EP Review: Heriot – Profound Morality (Church Road Records)

One of the UK’s most ferocious, brightest new hopes in heavy, Heriot, will release their new EP Profound Morality on the 29th of April 2022 via Church Road Records.

The sludgy and distorted hardcore metal that Heriot spit out is infinitely listenable, especially if you like your music to sound filthy. Something that this band deliver on across seven short, and to the point, efforts and one meaty, monstrous finale.

Opening with a blend of dark atmosphere and distorted instrumental heaviness, Heriot start things off strongly with Abaddon. Before fully hitting their stride with Coalescence, a track that shifts from chaotic noise to dreamy melodies and haunting vocals without missing a beat. What an incredible start to this EP.

Carmine (Fills the Hollow) and Near Vision keeps things noisy with an intense blast of distorted savagery and sludgy horror. Followed by poignant and lingering atmospheric sound of Mutagen, the unmitigated ferocity of Enter the Flesh and disturbing effects of Abattoir. Leading to the longest track on the EP, by some margin, the title track.

Here, Heriot double down on their incredible talent for combining gloomy atmospherics and pure, unadulterated grimy heaviness. The sludgy pace of this track wears you down but like everything else on this EP, it is simply too good to not enjoy.
