EP Review: Harroway – I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore (Self Released)

I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore is Sydney metalcore group Harroway’s debut EP, to be released on the 28th of April, 2023.

The EP is a personal recollection of vocalist Matt Banks and guitarist Josh Gemmal’s experiences with Borderline Personality Disorder. Both were diagnosed with BPD later in life after going through adolescence and early adulthood not understanding what was causing the chaos in their lives.

The relatable and believe honesty of Harroway is one reason to be impressed by the metalcore band’s new EP, but another is that it features 5 banger tracks. Each being a cathartic release for the band, and potentially those who experience the same things.

Dealing in metalcore, Harroway exude confidence as they trawl the abrasive depths of the heavy pits and fuse that sound with electrifying electronica elements and shrewdly placed melodies. It’s an animated EP, with some massive sounding choruses, and plenty of gurning intensity too. The stuff metalcore dreams are made of.

Yet, it’s the personal nature of the record that stands out and makes this more than just another metalcore release. Harroway are offering connective heavy music that just so happens to be pretty damn good too.
