EP Review: Great American Ghost – Torture World (MNRK Heavy)
Boston-based hardcore band, Great American Ghost, return with their new EP ‘Torture World’. Out on January 21st, 2022 via MNRK Heavy.
Torture World tackles several issues with urgency and passion, not the least of which is the struggle for equality and the resulting social unrest magnified in recent years.
A raging and snarling beast, Torture World is a frothing mania of head-crushing, body-beating and soul-rendering hardcore heaviness. An EP that sees Great American Ghost spitting furious bile at the injustices of the world in captivating fashion.
Kicking off with the serrated and disjointed rhythm of Kingmaker, a track that will make you sit up and take notice. Before some melody is introduced at the start of the title track, albeit briefly, as this quickly becomes an eye-wateringly heavy listen. The stompy groove does battle with vocals that are absolutely on fire and then the chorus hits. The vocals become clean and we get something with a more uplifting quality. Something you can sing along too! Spectacular stuff.
Womb keeps things just as wild and heavy with what seems like a tempo increase as this hits levels that can best be described as chaotic. Wonderful chaos mind you. Before Death Forgives No One wraps things up in crunchy, overwhelming style. Where, once again, the clean vocals make an appearance to great avail.
One hell of an EP. It’s going to be hard to top the rage that exudes from this release this year, that’s for sure.
