EP Review: Goatskullt – Tevras (Self Released)
Goatskullt is a three-piece black metal band from Helsinki, Finland. They will release their new EP ‘Tevras’ on September 10th, 2021. Thematically the release elaborates on the topics of mortality, death and nothingness channelled through dark Finnish folklore.
There’s a touch of black and roll in the opening riff of Lihan Uni but it doesn’t take long for it to transform into a frantic inferno of black fire. Speeding fury, mowing down everything in its path while proudly displaying the mark of Satan. It’s truly a twisted and evil opener.
Straight into Löyhkä, there is no messing around here as Goatskullt up the heat with even more hellish fire and even more devilish fury. Before Ruho covers the mind in thick and primordial darkness, a track that is akin to staring into the abyss and it staring right back.
Tyhjyydestä has a different edge; the rhythm sharper, more heavy metal orientated and the vocal change-up stands out. It’s a track that really starts to sound quite epic as it goes on. It’s then followed by the brutality of Syntyjäinen Koston and the short, punk-infused blast of hyper noise that is Mustan Manan Lähd.
A very cool release, it’s black metal but varied and very interesting!
