EP Review: Glass Bridges – Myria (Self Released)

Glass Bridges are a four-piece alternative rock band hailing from the south of England. Their debut EP, ‘Myria’, will be released on September 13th, 2024 and champions authentic expression with the intention of freeing the heart from the confines of societal expectation.

If you want to get me excited, hit me with some wicked synth straight away, which is what Glass Bridges do with the energetic start of opener Rain. The anthemic alternative aspects of this band’s sound is on display and while it might not be particularly original sounding, all the parts of Glass Bridges certainly make it a likable introduction. It has the first of several choruses that get jammed in the head too.

There’s more to Glass Bridges then body moving catchy numbers though (as if they needed more) and with War, they showcase a deeper and richer soundscape. Before delivering an EP highlight with Echo, as its combination of electrifying melody and robust heavy rockiness hits just right. Notably, it’s also very cool to hear some more intensity to vocals, especially when it comes to speed.

A thoroughly enjoyable EP is then capped off with Painted Skies and Glass Bridges’ hitting their melodic stride and allowing the vocals to lead the harmony of the instruments. It’s a more dramatic, pop-focused effort, but still featuring the undeniable alternative anthemic vibe that encapsulates the whole EP.

As I said, nothing original here, but no complaints regardless. Myria is a very good listen and Glass Bridges already seem far ahead of where you would expect a band to be on their debut release. Good things seem to be in store for them, and based off this, it’s deserved.
