EP Review: False Gods – Reports From Oblivion (Self Released)

This short three track EP comes just over a year after False Gods released their debut album, Wastelands. Reports From Oblivion will be released independently on August 18th 2017.

False Gods 1

Three tracks of thumping doom metal with influences ranging from EyeHateGod to Black Sabbath. False Gods mantra is simple…play heavy music. Full of throbbing riffs & hooks, the animal inside of Reports From Oblivion is awake & it is hungry.

They Who Speak to the Lost has a bit of pace & groove to it while Spirit World has a more classic doom sound. There’s quite a contrast between the two even though at it’s core it’s heavy & aggressive sounding. A lot of that is brought on by the nasty vocals. They have a real throaty quality to them sitting behind the deep, booming drum beats.

The EP finishes up with the title track, a bass-heavy & filthy sounding tune. It’s dripping in aggression, letting its disgust speak for itself. Momentarily picking up pace, it’s the most exciting song of the bunch.

A damn good EP of doomy riffs, unbridled aggression & sickening heaviness.
