EP Review: Fall and Resist – Darkness Of Now (Self Released)
Melo-death 4-piece Fall and Resist are back with a brand-new EP that expands on their sound. Called ‘Darkness of Now’, it will be released on August 5th, 2022.
Melo-death with progressive edges and infused with thrash and post-metal elements, Darkness of Now is a punchy return for this band. Where the 4 tracks fly by in a captivating blur of impressive noise.
The EP kicks off with the chunky heaviness of Creators of Our Own Demise. A melodic intro building upwards in power until Fall and Resist fully unveil the riotous and raucous meat of their being. The thrash element the band introduce here, on display with great aplomb. It’s an epic opener, not just in length, but in style.
Nothing but Pain brings the melo-death fire, where the rhythm section is on blistering form and Transient Forgiveness comes with a hefty amount of crunch. Both tracks are a little less complex and layered than the opener but serve to show that Fall and Resist’s style of melodic death metal can be progressive and straight-forward in equal measures.
What it also can be called is exciting. So much so, that it almost feels far too short even though it is an EP. Fall and Resist digging down deep for a finale that has all the quality elements heard so far rolled into a melo-death package that begs for a bout of head-banging. The chorus on this one is a particular high point.
