EP Review: Edit The Tide – Reflections In Sound (Self Released)

Edit The Tide is a new alternative rock band that features members who’ve shared stages with rock giants such as Bring Me the Horizon, Skindred, You Me at Six, Funeral for A Friend, and Light the Torch. Their debut EP, ‘Reflections in Sound’, is more than just an introduction and signal of intention; it’s Edit the Tide’s heartfelt narrative of the past few turbulent years. It will be released on April 26th, 2024.

It doesn’t get much more palatable for a wider rock audience then this, and while that might make you grimace, you’d be a fool to not experience the delightful alternative rock accessibility that this debut EP has. Especially as it has layers of creative ideas, all while being acutely anthemic, and there’s never going to be anything wrong with that, right?

A sweet melodic intro gives way to smooth vocals that immediately perk the ears up, but the intro that is Ambience has more meat to the bones. Something showcased by bursts of guitar flair and fast-paced drumbeats. It’s a kickass start, and while Unite and Rebel doesn’t have quite the same impact, it’s still an infectious piece of music with a strong chorus.

No such complaints about Paradigm though, which is an energetic banger with big riffs, progressive flair, and exciting groove. One of the EPs strongest tracks, the melodic switch-up in the latter half is really satisfying too. It sits comfortably alongside With Regret, which has a unique sounding chorus. The way in which the vocals soar over squealing guitars and hefty drums works very well, but the ending is the real highlight of this track.

Based off everything on this EP, Edit the Tide are going to be very popular and very quickly. The final confirmation coming from the epic melodies on the moody, but grand sounding finale of The Moment.
