EP Review: E.B & The Deadlights – Still See Ghosts (Self Released)

Emerging metal ‘n’ roll newcomers E.B & the Deadlights will release their debut EP, Still See Ghosts on December 3rd, 2021.

Vocalist Ethan Beattie discusses the themes behind the release:

This is an EP that we believe everyone can relate to. Everyone has ghosts and sees something looking back at them in the mirror they wish wasn’t there. No matter how big or small that ghost may be, it’s still there and you can’t get rid of it.

Moving as though something horrible is chasing them, E.B & the Deadlights come racing out of the blocks with Nightmare or Reality. An immoral blend of grim heaviness and sleazy rock, it’s filthy and dangerous but, as they will prove even more as this EP goes on, there’s a catchiness to it.

Heathen of the Mind is pure scuzzy groove and it’s disgusting but so damn lovable. A track that buries under the skin like a tick, you’ll scratch and scratch to get some relief. Just like you’ll listen to this banger repeatedly.

Devil Between Me & You then takes things in a much more rock orientated direction but with the same level of catchiness. A foot-tapper, it’s like a country song on steroids, if that makes any sense.

Sense is not necessarily an important thing when it comes to Empty Frames though. The simplicity of what could almost be called a club banger is too enjoyable to not just unchain your brain and enjoy.

This band knows how to do catchy tunes and the finale of the title track is the cherry on top. Even though it has a lot more melody and slows the tempo down, it still kicks ass. The chorus in particular is fire.

A great debut.
