EP Review: Doomtrigger – Dark Continuum (Self Released)
Doomtrigger is a 4-piece metal phenomenon hailing from Stellenbosch, South Africa. On May 5th, 2023, they will release their sophomore EP, Dark Continuum.
Having already made a strong impression with their debut EP, Doomtrigger are back and have a blistering and brutish follow-up to delight their ever-growing fanbase. With a sound that is part metalcore, part nu-metal, and filled with all kinds of groovy metal. Evident by the massive and meaty heaviness of opening Deceptor. A track that spikes the adrenaline and demands that you bang your head… hard.
A high bar set, Edge of Reason comes next and it shows Doomtrigger in an even more aggressive mood. Evident by the slamming death-infused pace of the instrumentation and the scathing vocal performance. Followed then by a moodier blend of tempos and groove with the head-banger that is House of Ghoul. Both the chorus and the guitar solo are highlights of this one.
Keeping the energy high and the heat turned up, Scorched Earth is Doomtrigger at their heaviest but they absolutely soar when it comes to the chorus. That’s the metalcore side of the band, and they nail it.
So much so that the EP seems to end quickly as Time Bomb delivers an explosive finale that pushes the spike in adrenaline to near boiling point. Super satisfying and super intense.
