EP Review: Djinn-Ghül – Mechalith (Vicious Instinct Records)
Divided between Venezuela and the United States, Djinn-Ghül was formed by Grant Nachbur (Nephrectomy, ex-Ritual Aesthetic) and Junior Patiño (Rotten Vomit, Voraraephilia) in 2017, when both wanted to manufacture an oddity death-metal project with the purpose of conceiving an extreme and unconventional sound, while dissolving all expectations of the sub-genre.
Now, fast-growing Australian label Vicious Instinct Records is proud to announce the release of Djinn-Ghül forthcoming new EP “Mechalith”, scheduled for release on December 9th, 2021.
Mechanised death metal, evolved horror and twisted future shocks, the comparisons to the likes of Fear Factory, The Amenta and The Monolith Deathcult make more sense once you hear what Djinn-Ghül have to offer.
Although their brand of extreme is a lot less palatable, it certainly isn’t lacking in exceptional song-writing ability. The combination of raw and guttural old-school death noise with the sharp and grinding industrial electronica is sinew-snapping and bone-breaking stuff. From the very start, you’re caught in the gears of Mechalith and can only watch in horror as they begin to turn.
Four tracks of ripping and tearing brutality, Djinn-Ghül are the ones in control of the body-smashing gears and delight in pulling the lever. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself cheering them on. This is a bloody excellent release.
