EP Review: Diesomnia – Pray for the Flood (Self Released)
Ohio death-thrashers Diesomnia are set to unleash their debut EP, ‘Pray for the Flood’ upon the masses. The release, originally slated for 2020 but sidelined by the pandemic, is finally ready to see the light of day on June 16th, 2023.
A long time coming, but if you like heavy, fast, belligerent, and abrasive heaviness than it will have been more than worth the wait.
Diesomnia have an aggressive sound, that much is clear with one listen through of the EP, yet being made up of members of other veteran bands, they have plenty of tricks up their sleeves to give Pray for the Flood its own flavour. This is a refined style of death and thrash, clean and concise, while being unrelenting from beginning to end. A lot of that being driven by a guitar and drum combo that is punishing and vocals that gurn and growl with all the vitriol of a hungry beast.
The unpredictable speed of the title track, the garish chunky head-banging moments of No Truth, the riff-heavy Blood Red Sorrow, the bad-mannered mayhem of The Art of Hopelessness, the unbridled thrashiness of A Cure for Weakness, and the Slayer-esqe You Will Know Less. The EP will leave you bloodied and bruised, but feeling ecstatic with the beating dished out by Diesomnia.
