EP Review: Dead Flesh – Dehumanise (Self Released)

Formed in 2021, Dead Flesh are a five-piece deathcore band from Hertfordshire, UK. On April 28th, 2024, they will release their new EP, ‘Dehumanise’.

The future of deathcore is looking so much brighter when you realise bands like Dead Flesh are around. A band that is aiming to make one hell of an impact with this EP and do so emphatically. From the moment the guitars and drums combine forces to break bones, and the vocals absolutely tear through flesh on opener Born into the Meat Grinder, you’ll know you’re in for a heavy, but very enjoyable time.

You’ll be left reeling by this opener, not just because it has such high-quality intensity, but because it has cleverly structured rhythms that give it more atmosphere, and a surprising amount of catchiness.

How about the rest of EP though? Well, Sick is an apt title as it showcases a nausea-inducing amount of heavy groove, but Bodies Upon Bodies is where it is at. Finding Dead Flesh at their most f**king manic sounding. It’s going to be one of their biggest tracks going forward, and live, will cause an undue amount of carnage.

They’re not done delivering beasts though, as Swallowing Nails builds on something that has been notable so far, and that’s layers of dark atmosphere and infusions of melody. It’s heavy, of course it is, just wait until the breakdown hits, but this one feels grander. Then, finally, it’s the self-titled track and here, the five-piece just go for the jugular. The blood might be spraying out and the light might be leaving your eyes, but you’ll have a big smile on the face.

Dehumanise is really f**king good.
