EP Review: Dark Deeds – Death Keeps (Self Released)
Dark Deeds, the Milwaukee-based deathcore quartet will release their debut EP, ‘Death Keeps’, on August 10th, 2024.
Entering the deathcore ring with limbs flailing, fire in their eyes, an undue level of strength, intensity, and giving off the vibe that someone is going to get hurt, Dark Deeds bring the aggression with this debut EP. Featuring seven beastly listens that showcases an egregious level of heaviness from the moment it kicks off with Found Underneath a Cold Knife.
A worrisome intro to the EP, it leaves you on edge as Dark Deeds smash their instruments in cacophonous style. The vocals are raging and the lyrical content is damn dark. It never quite explodes, but it certainly feels like it might and that leaves an impression, especially as this vibe continues into Leech. Dark Deeds aren’t delivering speed, but as far as savagery goes, they’re certainly delivering.
The murky feel of this record is ever-present and Apostate crafts some disconcerting atmosphere and delivers a voice-over that makes you pay attention. Followed then by a series of brutal offerings in the form of Dogma, Remorse, and King of Pentacles. If you’re hoping to hear a band playing with all their might and spitting up blood, you’re going to find exactly what you want here. Alongside some really impactful realness.
How does a banger EP wrap up? With a banger finale and with a banger guest spot. It’s the title track, it’s a massacre of heavy, and features Blind the Sacrifice for added intensity. Somehow meaner than anything heard already, which is saying something when you consider just how mean this debut EP record is.
