EP Review: Cynabare Urne – In The Cremation Ground (Helter Skelter/Regain Records)
Cynabare Urne are a bone-crushing death metal band from Finland. Active since 2014 they released their debut demo ‘Fire the Torches’ in 2016. Their next recording is a 4 track EP entitled, In The Cremation Ground. Out now via Helter Skelter Productions & Regain Records.
A fuzzy production on the guitars makes distinguishing the riffs of Conquistadors of Death a bit of an issue especially as the gutteral vocals are so crystal clear. That being said, the low, dirty & vile groove is appealing.
Ereshkigal takes things into more comforting & familiar territory with chugging depth to the death metal on show. It’s a cruel sounding track & the fuzziness is still present but it’s not as distracting.
Cynabare distill darkness, making the four tracks of this EP a cold listen. One that isn’t about giving much in the way of pleasure but rather reminding you that nothing really matters & we’re all just star dust really.
If that’s a sombre outlook, try listening to the drone of Shmashana Sadhana & the bludgeoning beat Martyrs in a Deathless World, then tell me how it makes you feel!
