EP Review: Cvlt Ov the Svn – Luna In The Sky Forever (OMN)

Self-styled ‘Occult Murder Pop’ act Cvlt Ov the Svn will release their debut EP. ‘Luna In The Sky Forever’ via OMN label services on September 27th 2019.

“When I wrote these songs, I wanted to push people’s boundaries,” says the mysterious creative visionary behind Cvlt Ov the Svn. “I wanted to come up with ideas and lyrics that make you go, ‘What the fuck?!’” he continues. “It’s easier to tell those grim stories through another identity, another character. I’m a big fan of suspense and this kind of content is all about the surprises. But there’s still some secrecy around who I am, so I have something special in store for the upcoming London show… expect a few big surprises!”

Cvlt Ov the Svn will support Ice Nine Kills at their sold out show at London’s o2 Islington Academy on 27th September, marking their UK debut.

On face value it’s easy to make comparisons to the likes of Ghost as Cvlt Ov the Svn are mysterious and masked, play a style of rock and roll that is gothic and with ritualistic undertones. However, once heard it’s clear most of the comparisons end there.

Now, it is peppy and a bit poppy but Cvlt Ov the Svn are much more of darker beast. Just one that plays rock and roll at their mysterious and intriguing core.

Image is nothing if the songs don’t hold water and happily that is not the case with Cvlt Ov the Svn. This four track EP is unique, interesting and exciting. From the foot tapping gothic drawl of the title track to the faster, heavier and super-riffy Whore of Babylon to the satanic-style ritual of The Pit. The latter of three really sees the vocals growl away.

It culminates in horror pouring from the riffs while the bass hums away and the throaty whispered style of vocals encourage dark thoughts.

Lovely stuff.
