EP Review: Consumed – Consumed (Self Released)
Featuring members of Siberian Hell Sounds, Descent and Snorlax, Consumed are a blackened grind unit from the underside of the world. Their self-titled debut EP is out on October 30th 2018.
Keeping it short and to the point, Consumed’s brand of grindcore is filled with a level of atmospheric blackness that makes it stand out from the usual suspects within the sub-genre. However, don’t be under any illusions, this is a face-blasting piece of grind and opener, NOTHING in no way can prepare you for what follows. This is because NOTHING doesn’t have the speed or ferocity of the rest of the album. It’s longer and more rhythmic then almost everything else but it certainly doesn’t mean it’s a bad track.
LEECHES is way more intense though, a short sharp jab to the mind while SICK (I) and SICK (II) offer varying levels of rage. The riffs and the vocals of the latter are staggeringly good.
Keeping things short, fast and heavy, CRUTCH then brutalises the mind before DECRIMINALISE takes things down to the lowest and dirtiest possible sound going. Contrastingly different but both equally exciting. Unsurprisingly PIGS ups the tempo but sticks closely to the formula set out already… god-damn heavy music.
Which sums up the album as whole. Very easy to digest thanks to the length, this is blackened grindcore done right and it culminates in a lengthy title track as its finale. The howling vocals and fuzziness of the riffs are at their most intense here.
